This healthy brownies recipe is naturally sweetened, soft, and chocolatey with simple ingredients and no refined flour.
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
2/3 cup almond butter
1/3 cup maple syrup
2 tablespoons coconut sugar (or brown sugar substitute)
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)
1 cup healthy frosting (optional)
Preheat Oven:
Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
Mix Wet Ingredients:
In a large bowl, whisk together applesauce, almond butter, and maple syrup until smooth.
Add Dry Ingredients:
Add coconut sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, salt, and vanilla extract. Mix until just combined.
Fold in Chocolate Chips:
Gently fold in chocolate chips if using.
Bake:
Transfer batter to the prepared pan and spread evenly. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out mostly clean.
Cool & Serve:
Let brownies cool completely before slicing. Add frosting if desired.
Do not overbake to keep brownies soft and fudgy.
Almond butter can be replaced with peanut butter if preferred.
Use dairy-free chocolate chips for a vegan option.
Store in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
