10-min. Easy Korean Egg Rice (Gyeran Bap) is a quick and comforting dish made with buttery rice, a fried egg, and savory soy sauce. Perfect for a simple and satisfying meal in minutes.
1 1/2 cups cooked short grain rice (or jasmine rice)
1 egg
1 tbsp unsalted butter
1/2 tsp toasted sesame oil
1 tbsp soy sauce (adjust to taste)
1 tsp toasted sesame seeds
1 tbsp green onion, finely chopped
1/2 tsp vegetable oil
Optional Toppings:
Kimchi, canned tuna, roasted seaweed flakes, avocado, sautéed vegetables (carrots, spinach, zucchini), or extra protein
Mix hot cooked rice with butter until fully melted and combined. Transfer to a serving bowl.
Heat vegetable oil in a non-stick pan over medium heat. Fry the egg to your preference (sunny-side up recommended for a runny yolk).
Place the fried egg on top of the buttered rice.
Drizzle sesame oil and soy sauce over the rice.
Sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
Break the egg and mix everything together before eating. Serve hot.
Use freshly cooked hot rice for best flavor and texture.
Adjust soy sauce to control saltiness.
Add toppings like kimchi or tuna for extra protein and flavor.
For a richer taste, use high-quality toasted sesame oil.
