Delicate apple rose pastry blooms are a beautifully sweet treat made with flaky puff pastry, tender apple slices, jam, and cinnamon. This elegant dessert is perfect for holidays, tea parties, and special occasions.
2 apples
2 puff pastry sheets
Your favorite jam
Cinnamon, optional
1 tablespoon lemon juice
Powdered sugar, for dusting
Water, for softening apples
Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F).
Slice the apples in half and remove the cores. Cut them into very thin slices.
Place the apple slices in a bowl with water and lemon juice. Microwave for 4 to 5 minutes until softened and pliable.
Drain the apples and gently pat them dry.
Roll out the puff pastry sheets and cut each sheet into 3 equal strips, for a total of 6 strips.
Spread a thin layer of jam over each pastry strip.
Arrange the apple slices along the top edge of each strip, slightly overlapping them, with the rounded peel side extending above the pastry.
Sprinkle with cinnamon if using.
Fold the bottom half of the pastry up over the apple slices.
Starting at one end, carefully roll each strip into a rose shape.
Place each rose into a muffin tin cavity.
Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.
Let cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Slice the apples as thinly as possible so they roll easily without breaking.
Red-skinned apples work especially well for a rose-like appearance.
Watch the pastries near the end of baking to prevent over-browning.
A light glaze or extra dusting of powdered sugar can make them even more elegant for serving.
These pastries pair beautifully with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
