1 lb ground beef
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1 large egg
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 tbsp Dijon mustard
1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp paprika (optional)
Vegetable oil (for frying)
1. Sauté the Onion
Heat a small pan with a little oil and cook the chopped onion until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes. Let it cool slightly.
2. Mix the Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine ground meat, breadcrumbs, egg, sautéed onion, Dijon mustard, parsley, salt, pepper, and paprika. Mix until fully combined but not overworked.
3. Shape the Patties
Form the mixture into evenly sized patties, about 3/4 inch thick.
4. Fry the Frikadellen
Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Cook patties for 5–7 minutes per side until golden brown and fully cooked through.
5. Drain and Serve
Remove from pan and drain on paper towels. Serve warm.
Add minced garlic for extra depth of flavor.
Use gluten-free breadcrumbs for a gluten-free version.
Traditionally served with mustard, pickles, or potato salad.
Do not press patties while cooking to keep them juicy.
