Quick, comforting garlic butter pasta tossed with Parmesan, herbs, and tender noodles for an easy weeknight dinner ready in minutes.

Ingredients

8 ounces (225 g) dry pasta (spaghetti, linguine, or your favorite long pasta)
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
½ onion, finely chopped
45 garlic cloves, minced
½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
½ teaspoon chili flakes
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil (optional)
½ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
¼ cup reserved pasta water
Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish, optional)
Extra Parmesan for serving

Instructions

Step 1: Cook the Pasta
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
Cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente.
Before draining, reserve ¼ cup pasta water.
Drain the pasta and set aside.
Step 2: Make the Garlic Butter Sauce
In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter.
Add the finely chopped onion and sauté for 3–4 minutes until soft and translucent.
Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30–60 seconds until fragrant.
Step 3: Season the Sauce
Add the salt, black pepper, chili flakes, oregano, and basil (if using).
Stir well and cook for another minute to allow the flavors to bloom.
Step 4: Combine Everything
Add the cooked pasta to the skillet.
Pour in the reserved pasta water and toss until the pasta is coated in the buttery sauce.
Sprinkle in the grated Parmesan cheese.
Toss continuously until the cheese melts and creates a silky coating on the pasta.
Step 5: Serve
Remove from heat.
Garnish with fresh parsley and additional Parmesan cheese.
Serve immediately while hot.

Notes

Reserve pasta water before draining; it helps create a smooth, glossy sauce.
Freshly grated Parmesan melts better and provides the best flavor.
Add grilled chicken, shrimp, mushrooms, or spinach for extra protein and nutrition.
Adjust the chili flakes to your preferred spice level.
For a richer sauce, add an extra tablespoon of butter.
