Soft, fluffy, and glazed with sweet vanilla honey, these classic honey buns are perfect for breakfast, dessert, or anytime snacking. Made from scratch and full of warm spices.
¼ cup warm milk (about 110°F)
¼ cup warm water
1 packet active dry yeast
½ cup sugar, divided
¾ cup melted butter
2 large eggs
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp salt
½ tsp ground cinnamon
½ tsp ground nutmeg
½ cup honey
1 tsp vanilla extract
Prepare yeast mixture: Combine warm milk, warm water, and ¼ cup sugar in a small bowl. Sprinkle yeast on top, stir, and let sit for 5–10 minutes until bubbly.
Make the dough: In a large bowl, mix melted butter, eggs, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Add the yeast mixture and remaining sugar. Gradually add flour, mixing until a dough forms.
Knead: Knead dough on a floured surface for 5–7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
Shape buns: Punch down the dough and roll into a large rectangle (½-inch thick). Brush with melted butter. Roll tightly, slice into 1-inch pieces.
Second rise: Arrange in a greased pan, leaving space between. Cover and let rise 30 minutes.
Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F. Bake for 20–25 minutes, until golden.
Honey glaze: Mix honey and vanilla. Drizzle over hot buns after baking. Let glaze soak in before serving.
Let dough rise in the fridge overnight for fresh morning baking.
Add raisins or nuts for extra texture.
Try cream cheese or powdered sugar glaze instead of honey.
Reheat in the oven or microwave for fresh-from-the-oven taste.
