Make beautiful, glossy gourmet caramel apples at home! Dip in rich homemade caramel and finish with toppings like nuts, sprinkles, or drizzled chocolate.

Ingredients

For the Apples:

12 large cold organic apples (any variety)

23 tbsp cold water

For the Homemade Caramel Sauce:

1 cup granulated sugar

¼ cup water

¾ cup heavy cream

3 tbsp butter

1 tsp vanilla extract

For Toppings & Drizzles (choose any):

Shredded coconut

Mini chocolate chips

Graham cracker crumbs

Mini M&M’s

Mini marshmallows

Crushed cookies

Chopped nuts

Festive sprinkles

Melted chips: white chocolate, milk chocolate, semi-sweet, dark chocolate, peanut butter, butterscotch

Instructions

Prepare apples: Wash and dry apples well. Remove stems and insert wooden sticks 1 inch deep. Place on parchment-lined baking sheet and refrigerate.

Make caramel sauce:

In a saucepan, heat sugar and water over medium until sugar melts and turns amber.

Whisk in heavy cream carefully (mixture will bubble vigorously).

Stir in butter and vanilla until smooth.

Melt chocolate chips: Place chocolate (or other flavored chips) in heat-proof containers. Place in a warm water bath (using a crockpot setup) to melt and keep warm. Transfer to squeeze bottles or piping bags.

Dip apples: Working with chilled apples, dip into hot caramel, coating evenly. Let excess drip for ~30 seconds. Immediately roll in toppings or sprinkle toppings over apples. Place on parchment-lined tray.

Chill & drizzle: Refrigerate apples for 5–10 minutes to set caramel. Drizzle with melted chocolate (or other chips) and add sprinkles or extra toppings.

Serve or gift: Once chocolate is set, serve sliced or wrap in cellophane for gifting.

Notes

Reheat caramel gently if it thickens while dipping.

Keep apples cold and dry before dipping for best coating.

Nutrition varies depending on toppings used.
