The best French Onion Butter Rice with deep onion flavor, tender baked rice, and rich buttery goodness. A simple oven-baked side dish that pairs with almost any meal.

Ingredients

1 ¼ cups long-grain rice, uncooked

14.5 oz can beef broth

10.5 oz can French onion soup

1 stick cold butter

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the oven:
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

Prepare the baking dish:
Spread the uncooked long-grain rice evenly across the bottom of an 8×8-inch baking dish, creating a flat layer.

Add the liquids:
Pour the beef broth evenly over the rice. Then add the French onion soup, spreading it across the dish. Do not stir, allowing the rice to absorb the flavors gradually during baking.

Add the butter:
Slice the cold butter into small pats and distribute them evenly across the top of the rice mixture.

Bake covered:
Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.

Bake uncovered:
Remove the foil and continue baking for another 25 minutes until the rice is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed.

Garnish and serve:
Remove from the oven, gently fluff the rice with a fork, sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley, and serve warm.

Notes

Use long-grain rice for the best fluffy texture.

Avoid stirring before baking so the rice cooks evenly and absorbs the broth gradually.

For extra flavor, sprinkle shredded Gruyère or Parmesan cheese on top during the last 10 minutes of baking.

This dish pairs well with roasted chicken, steak, pork chops, or grilled vegetables.
