Soft, colorful, and fun, these cotton candy cookies are a sweet treat that tastes just like the carnival favorite in cookie form.
2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour (or gluten-free 1:1 baking flour)
½ tsp baking soda
½ tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 ½ tsp cotton candy flavoring (LorAnn or similar)
½ tsp vanilla extract
Pink and blue food coloring (gel preferred)
Optional: sprinkles, edible glitter, or sanding sugar for decoration
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy (2–3 minutes).
Beat in the egg, cotton candy flavoring, and vanilla extract.
Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined.
Divide dough into two bowls. Tint one half pink and the other blue with food coloring.
Take small pieces of each color and gently roll them together into 1–1.5 inch balls, creating a marbled effect.
Place dough balls 2 inches apart on prepared baking sheet. Add sprinkles or glitter if desired.
Bake for 9–11 minutes, until edges are set but centers are soft (do not overbake).
Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Use gel food coloring for vibrant colors without affecting texture.
You can chill the dough for 30 minutes if it’s too soft to handle.
These cookies freeze well – just store in an airtight container for up to 2 months.
For added fun, sandwich two cookies with frosting or marshmallow fluff!
