This classic cinnamon apple crisp is warm, buttery, and topped with a golden oat crumble—an easy fall dessert made with fresh apples and cozy spices.

Ingredients

6 cups apples, peeled and sliced

1 cup brown sugar, divided

1 cup rolled oats

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1/2 cup butter, softened

1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

Preheat Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a baking dish.

Prepare Apples:
In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with 1/2 cup brown sugar and cinnamon. Spread evenly into the prepared baking dish.

Make Topping:
In another bowl, combine rolled oats, flour, remaining 1/2 cup brown sugar, nutmeg, and salt.

Cut in Butter:
Add softened butter and use a pastry cutter or fork to mix until the topping forms coarse crumbs.

Assemble:
Sprinkle the oat mixture evenly over the apples.

Bake:
Bake for 45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbling.

Serve:
Allow to cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream if desired.

Notes

Use a mix of tart and sweet apples (like Granny Smith and Honeycrisp) for the best flavor balance.

Add chopped pecans or walnuts to the topping for extra crunch.

Substitute gluten-free flour and oats for a gluten-free version.

Store leftovers covered in the fridge for up to 3 days; reheat before serving.
