Ingredients

4 large oranges

2 cups sugar

1 cup water

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

Wash the oranges thoroughly and peel them into thick strips.

Boil the orange peels in a pot of water for 5 minutes to remove bitterness.

Drain and rinse the peels under cold water.

In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, and optional vanilla extract. Bring to a simmer.

Add the orange peels and simmer for 45 minutes until they become translucent.

Remove the peels and place them on a wire rack to dry for 24 hours.

Notes

Store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
