Black Forest trifle for Christmas layered with rich chocolate cake, sweet cherries, and fluffy whipped cream for a festive holiday showstopper.

Ingredients

Chocolate Cake Layer

1 cup all-purpose flour

½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 cup granulated sugar

1 tsp baking powder

½ tsp baking soda

½ tsp salt

½ cup vegetable oil

½ cup milk

1 large egg

1 tsp vanilla extract

Cherry Filling

2 cups cherry pie filling

Whipped Cream Layer

2 cups heavy whipping cream

¼ cup powdered sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

Garnish

Chocolate shavings

Fresh cherries

Instructions

Prepare the Chocolate Cake

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking pan.

In a large bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Add vegetable oil, milk, egg, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.

Pour batter into the pan and bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Cool completely, then cut cake into bite-sized cubes.

Whip the Cream

In a chilled bowl, whip heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until stiff peaks form.

Assemble the Trifle

In a trifle dish or large glass bowl, layer:

Half of the chocolate cake cubes

Half of the cherry pie filling

Half of the whipped cream

Repeat layers once more.

Finish with chocolate shavings and fresh cherries on top.

Chill

Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving to allow flavors to meld.
