Moist, lightly spiced, and naturally sweetened with honey and applesauce, this comforting loaf is perfect for breakfast, snacks, or gifting.

Ingredients

3 cups all-purpose flour

3 teaspoons baking soda

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

1/2 cup butter, room temperature

1/2 cup honey

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

2 1/2 cups unsweetened applesauce

Instructions

Prep: Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan (or two smaller pans).

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, sift together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and ginger.

Cream Butter & Sweeteners: In another bowl, cream together butter, sugar, and honey until smooth.

Add Eggs & Applesauce: Beat in eggs one at a time. Stir in applesauce until well combined.

Combine: Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.

Bake: Pour into prepared pan and bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Tent with foil in the last 20 minutes if the top browns too quickly.

Cool: Let cool completely before slicing.

Notes

For a softer crust, cover loosely with foil while cooling.

Substitute half the flour with whole wheat flour for a heartier texture.

Add chopped nuts or raisins for extra texture and flavor.
